In the elite Viennese boarding school “Marianum”, the children of a better society are trained. The class teacher Dolinar is an antiquated and despotic man. What can you learn for life here? Till Kokorda can't do much with either the canon or the snobbish environment. His passion is computer games, specifically: the real-time strategy game Age of Empires II. Unbeknownst to anyone around him, at fifteen he is the youngest top 10 player in the world and an online celebrity. But how real is such happiness? With surprising twists and approachable humor, Tonio Schachinger tells of a youth between gaming and reading classics, of a desire for freedom that has to prove itself against fiery traditionalists - and of the incalculable rest. Real-Time Age is an example and proof of the timeless power of a good story - and a great one Social novel.

Tonio Schachinger (*1992, New Delhi) studied German at the University of Vienna and language arts at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. His first novel Not Like You was on the shortlist for the German Book Prize in 2019, which he received in 2023.
