Aya Met­wal­li So­lo

Hypnotic experiment with voice and electronics.
Aya Metwalli was born in Cairo and calls her city “an orchestra that never tunes”. She grew up with car horns that sounded like brass knuckles, rattling loudspeakers, disharmonious calls to prayer from broken speakers and the daily shouting of street vendors. Metwalli played the piano to drown out the noise, picked up the guitar to bring finer sounds into her everyday life, and began to explore electronics as a way to transform stress into songs. Her sound is expressionistic and immediate. On stage, she reveals herself in all her vulnerability and strength: intimate gestures and whispers amplify into crystal-clear songs and laments. A slow, heartfelt burning with an aftertaste of sadness.
