Lineup: Mazen Kerbaj: trumpet/electronics, Billiana Vaoutchkova: violin, Marina Mello: harp, Maurice Louca: guitar, Sharif Sehnaoui: guitar, Raed Yassin: bass, Khaled Yassin: percussion/gamelan
Experimental electronica meets avant-garde jazz and Egyptian folk music.
Maurice Louca creates a hypnotic sound from minimalism, free improvisation and folk, adapting his guitar for Arabic maqam scales and playing microtonal intervals. Mazen Kerbaj creates mystical effects with his trumpet, while bassist Raed Yassin and guitarist Sharif Sehnaoui make their strings squeak, howl and hum. Billiana Vaoutchkova's violin and Marina Mello's harp form a charming contrast to Louca's micro-sounds. Khaled Yassin provides a springy, precise rhythm. Challenging, fascinating music for fans of transcendent sound experiments far removed from convention.
