Pfauen, Zürich

birth no birth / drum concert by Matze Pröllochs

Matze Pröllochs plays the drums, often in productions by Christopher Rüping, who works as house director at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. Matze Pröllochs has often performed on stage here and, for example, gave Christopher Rüping's evening Einfach das Ende der Welt a beat that many people still remember and remember. After many years in the band Me and My Drummer, with which he received a lot of attention and won many hearts, Matze Pröllochs has been independent for some time now. He is now releasing a new solo album that deals with the topic of birth and also makes room for the sad event of miscarriage. For many people, pregnancy and the promise of a new life that comes with it are the most promising moment of all. At the same time, a taboo lies over the reflection of this hopeful moment that is deeply familiar to countless people: miscarriage. This experience often remains in the intimate, indivisible area of life, associated with feelings of isolation, powerlessness and self-doubt. With his new album, Matze Prölloch is looking for a way to transform this intimate experience, shared by so many, into a shared experience. The primarily instrumental pieces combine rhythms with orchestral sounds and individual piano moments. Between trip hop and art pop, an otherworldly soundtrack has been created, which is now being presented to the public at the Pfauen. On May 11, the album's presentation is part of an evening that begins at 6 p.m.: First, a young person (actor Rabea Lüthi), an older person (the photographer Herlinde Koelbl! and a person in between (the director Christopher Rüping) talk about the pitfalls of generational coexistence and the role of art in it; then everyone watches Christopher Rüping's production of Chekhov's Seagull together, where being young and growing older leads to funny situations and tragic events; and finally, late in the evening, Matze Prölloch will present his homage to the coming generations, some of whom will see the world and others who will be sent back forever to the nothingness of what came before, to the public for the first time.
