Lecture on the history of tourism
High season. Visiting Appenzell Innerrhoden The Appenzell Museum is showing an exhibition on the subject of tourism to mark the 125th anniversary of the Appenzellerland Tourismus AI association. Using objects and photos, mostly from our own collection, the topic of tourism is examined from different perspectives. In Appenzell Innerrhoden, tourism experienced a rapid boom from the middle of the 19th century, which led to the establishment of countless inns in and around the Alpstein. As a result, elaborately designed posters are launched and the first illustrated tourist guides as well as the weekly Innerrhoden tourist newspaper are published. They all advertise the attractive landscape and the hospitality of local family businesses. The historians Kathrin Moeschlin and Nadia Pettannice provide insight into the multifaceted history of the former Appenzell spa and tourist association under the title "Spa guests, hiking birds and ski tourists".
