José Carlos Viana's color compositions are initially created as croquis - the first version on paper - which are then repeated in a larger format on paper or canvas. Combinations, repetitions, copies, reproductions and collages are central elements of his art. His picture designs always show dynamism, energy and rhythm and are reminiscent of the sounds of jazz music, which inspires him while working in the studio. The work of the artist, who was born in Lisbon in 1937, shows a diverse range of sources of inspiration. The self-taught artist's fascination with modern painting and in particular with Impressionism, Dadaism and Cubism can be felt in his work. Another important source of inspiration is his stays by the sea in Portugal. During his career within the Würth Group, Viana held various management positions - including as founder of today's Würth Finance International B.V. He remained as a delegate on the supervisory board of Würth Finance International B.V. until 2010. He has been interested in art since his childhood. He attended drawing and painting courses in Portugal, the USA and Switzerland. Today he lives in Zurich and works in his studio on Zürichberg.
