Ol­ga Ti­tus: The bro­ken pi­xel

The artist has transformed the small vaulted cellar of the Thurgau Art Museum into a wondrous grotto. Local mountain folklore is mixed with South Sea exoticism under rainbows and old ideas of paradise merge hypnotically into postcard idylls and screen saver kitsch. The psychedelic-looking idyll alludes to immersive, virtual worlds, but is built by hand and craftsmanship and allows visitors to immerse themselves without 3D glasses. You discover a panda bear, red shoes and Thurgau apples, which float through the rush of images like associations from dreams, memories or floods of digital images. But the exuberant landscape conglomerate seems to be out of joint: overgrown by liana-like structures, it flows into defects and the perfection is undermined by broken pixels.
