A gigantic underwater mountain range rises in the middle of the Atlantic. Its highest peaks form the Azores archipelago. For seabirds, they are a bridgehead between America and Europe. Many colonies of gulls and guillemots cover the cliffs. For more than 20 species of whales on their way to and from the Arctic waters, the partially shallow sea zones of the islands are a lush feeding trough.
