Aman-Re­be­ti­ko feats Yian­nis Dio­ny­siou

The music group Aman Rebetiko with Chrysa Papadopoulou as singer is coming back to Switzerland for three shows after their extremely successful performances: in Zurich, Lausanne and Basel. The combo is accompanied by one of the most talented of the younger representatives of the music of Café Aman, the great Yiannis Dionysiou from Cyprus. They are joined by another Cypriot musician who also has his mark on the Mediterranean music scene, the violinist Michalis Kouloumis. Together they lead us on a journey through the magical sounds of the Rebetiko melodies. Melodies that originated in the Café Aman, the Greek cafes in the urban centers of Asia Minor, especially Istanbul and Smyrna at the beginning of the 20th century, where singers and musicians improvised in free rhythm. In these Café Aman, the intense musical tradition of the Greeks of Asia Minor was born, which, after the expulsion in 1922, found itself in the port cities on the other side of the Aegean and developed the classic Rebetiko there. Songs that are still sung passionately in Greece and Cyprus today.
