Reto Crameri - Alula

The Swiss Children's and Young People's Book Prize is awarded annually at the Solothurn Literature Days. At Aprillen, one of the award nominees will present their book. This year Reto Crameri is eagerly awaited with his turning book Alula. In the textless picture book Alula - Garden/Primeval Forest by Reto Crameri, a garden hose becomes a giant snake, clothespins become crocodiles - and a game in the garden becomes a fantastic jungle expedition. A few dark lines in the reduced, four-color images bring to life two children who curiously set out to experience the adventures of a free childhood. In the middle of the book everything changes: when the book is turned, you experience the story from a new side. Clever reflections invite you to leaf back and forth. The great turning book has already been recognized as one of the most beautiful German books of 2023 and has been nominated for Sarafina 2023 as well as for the Swiss Children's and Young People's Book Prize 2024. Alula was published by Kunstanstifter Verlag (Mannheim). Five works have been nominated for the Swiss Children's and Young People's Book Prize 2024. The prize underlines the importance of diverse and lively children's and young people's literature for the motivation of children and young people to read. It is supported by the Swiss Institute for Children and Youth Media SIKJM, the Swiss Book Trade and Publishing Association SBVV and the Solothurn Literature Days. www.schweizerkinderbuchpreis.ch
