Father Logan's life in his Canadian parish changes dramatically when one day his sexton confides in him in the confessional that he has committed a murder. The young priest tries to persuade the previously blameless Otto Keller to turn himself in. But he stubbornly refuses. When the police investigations then cast suspicion on Father Michael Logan himself, he becomes more and more entangled in the other man's guilt.
