In the new special exhibition, the Museum Burg Zug takes on the topic of collecting and shows treasures from the museum collection. Experience objects in a different way and find out their history.
What do we do with all the things that surround us? What are they doing to us? Many of us have an urge to collect, sort and show things. They help remember, organize knowledge, and trigger emotions. In short: With these things we make the world our own. Around 50,000 such things lie dormant in the collection of the Burg Zug Museum. They offer us access to the past and store a wide range of knowledge. But which memories and knowledge should the museum preserve? How did the items find their way into the collection? And: How does the museum deal with these objects, how and why are they cared for and preserved for future generations? The exhibition “Are you OK? Stories from the Collection” explores these questions and looks for answers by showing a cross-section of the otherwise mostly hidden treasures. The objects come together in unusual ensembles. This creates new connections, perspectives and stories. Some objects reveal their own history straight away. With each one, knowledge and meaning grow and new doors and insights into the past continue to open. The variety of stories contributes to understanding the present. A translation is available for English-speaking visitors.
