Lunch concert: Streichtrio mal different

Friday, 3. May 2024

Reformierte Kirche Zug, Zug

A slightly different trio line-up plays in the summer lunch concert: viola, cello and double bass. The three instruments open up a fascinating world of sound for your lunch break.

The summer lunch concert features a (too) little-heard, beautiful chamber music line-up. String trio with a difference! Instead of the traditional string trio instruments, viola, cello and double bass form a trio. The sonority of the three instruments mixes excellently and opens up a fascinating world of sound. The trio performs the “Partie a tre”, which is attributed to the composer Michael Kirsten. The previously unjustly unknown work is more than just worth listening to. It is entirely in the tradition of a baroque suite. The Viennese Leopold Hoffmann, a student of Wagenseil and cathedral music director at the famous St. Stephen's Cathedral, was considered an important composer by his contemporaries. He was mentioned in the same breath as Gluck and Haydn. Hoffmann only surrounded himself with the musically influential people in Viennese society. You can hear that his lively trio belongs to Viennese classical music. The concert ends with a trouvaille by Romberg, the Trio op. 38 No. 1. It is part of the three-part opus "Trois Trios d'une Difficulté Progressive pour le Violoncelle Viola et Violoncelle", whose Nos. 2 and 3 are much more complex - especially with regard to the cello technical requirements – have failed. Romberg was one of the greatest cello virtuosos of his time and also made a name for himself as the developer of a cello school that is still important today. Program Unknown - attributed to Michael Kirsten (1682-1742): Partie a tre Leopold Hofmann (1738-1793): Trio Opus 1 No. 3 Bernhard Romberg (1767-1841): Trio in E minor, op. 38 No. 1 Musician *inside Dominik Fischer, viola Jonas Iten, cello Kaspar Wirz, double bass
