Th. 21. March - Su. 12. May 2024

Manoir de Martigny, Martigny

  • Exhibition

The diverse cultural offerings in Valais range from millennia-old cultural heritage to contemporary art in all variations. In the Culture Agenda everyone gets their own taste!

As part of the New Generation exhibition, the Ganioz Project Space (GPS) of the Manoir de la Ville de Martigny welcomes the artist Christel Voeffray, winner of the ArtPro 2022 grant awarded by the State of Valais to support emerging artists∙ e∙x∙s. In this exhibition, the artist presents his project, The Emission of Things. Christel Voeffray is a visual artist, she practices the medium of drawing and articulates a reflection around the object. For her exhibition The Emission of Things, she uses recovered and melted tin objects, taking advantage of the remarkable ability of this material to be reused almost infinitely. The objects serve as raw materials for new creations, where manual deformations and anthropomorphic elements are integrated, thus giving rise to invisible characters. “Everyday objects are reservoirs of our desires, our memories, a collective memory or an identity. They are also reflective surfaces; these objects have a power of action on us, they interfere in our emotions and our gestures. » Christel Voeffray The radical gesture of “destruction” accomplished by the artist and the new creation that results from it constitute a true homage to reuse and continual metamorphosis. By revealing this creative process and highlighting destroyed objects, Christel Voeffray's work calls into question our consumption model. This accumulation finally allows us to become aware of the absurdity of such mass production while promoting an emotional link to the newly created objects. After her training in graphic design at the School of Design and Haute École d'Art de Sierre (EDHEA) as well as a year at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), she obtained a bachelor's degree in visual arts, visuals and space, specialization in drawing, at the School of Graphic Research (ERG) in Brussels. She spent the last year of her course on an international exchange in Mexico City at CENART (Centro Nacional de las Artes) at La Esmeralda. She currently lives between Brussels, where she studies at the Free University of Brussels (ULB) in contemporary art history, and Valais where she has taught at EDHEA since 2023. She is also part of the Collectif Facteur. OPENING Thursday March 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the presence of the artist Link zur Website: https://www.manoir-martigny.ch/ganioz-project-space.html
