Kloster Muri, Muri AG

From the family history of Abbot Zurlauben.

Nothing was left to chance! The election of Plazidus Zurlauben as Abbot of Muri, the lucrative positions in the Free Offices, the military business with the King of France - everything followed a plan. Every member of the Zurlauben family from Zug had his task. 300 years ago, Plazidus Zurlauben, Abbot of Muri from 1684 to 1723, died. He is considered a great builder, was awarded the title of prince and held court accordingly. He left behind a wealthy monastery and helped his sister, abbess of the Mariazell-Wurmsbach monastery, out of great financial need. Obviously successful, he fit in perfectly with the wealthy and ambitious Zurlauben family. But was it as it seems at first glance? Why did he flee Muri during the Second Villmergen War? Was he not neutral enough or not pious enough? And what did his comrades and subordinates think of him? The special exhibition as an audio tour provides a glimpse behind the facade of the busy Zurlauben family. 20 figures in and around the Muri monastery tell stories about the well-connected Muri abbot!
