Fri-Art, Fribourg

A joint exhibition by Kunsthalle Friart Fribourg and Lumiar Cité, Lisbon

Sid Iandovka and Anya Tsyrlina (both born in Novosibirsk, USSR) have worked together for over twenty years, developing a uniquely independent production approach to their cross-media work. Their practice takes place in a state of statelessness, separated from community, identity and known context. They create one-off cinematic and sonic objects in which hauntological detachment meets untethered proto-punk sensibility.

In their first institutional exhibition, once in a hundred years, Iandovka and Tsyrlina collaborate with American artists Leslie Thornton and Thomas Zummer.

The installation in Friart is conceived as an imaginary wasteland of cinema after artificial intelligence. once in a hundred years conjures up a reimagined "story space" in which the narrative form breaks up into ephemeral songs, a eulogy of the living present.
