Bourbaki Panorama, Luzern

Public tour behind the scenes: Insights into the sustainable profession in close proximity to the picture! Accompanied by the restorer.

Restoration is the most sustainable method of dealing with historical building stock: With diverse, sometimes sophisticated techniques, it prevents the new production of building materials, saves energy and even refreshes the charm of earlier eras. Since the museum reopened in 2000, the canvas of the Bourbaki Panorama has been restored in order to preserve the huge panorama from 1881 for the future. Despite relatively stable climatic room conditions, the canvas and paint layer react differently to even the slightest climatic fluctuations: they expand and also shrink at different rhythms. In 2018, the effects of climatic conditions on the panorama were examined in detail and have received attention ever since. On an exclusive tour, the restorer/conservator and art historian Susanna Pesko Bonoli tells of the impressive (painting) life on the downside of the actual spectacle. With her, the participants get behind the scenes of the immense panorama and over the scaffolding up to the screen. On the occasion of the motto of the European Heritage Days, Susanna Persko Bonoli focuses on the sustainability of her restoration work. The tour takes place on the occasion of the "Monument Mile" event as part of the European Monument Days with the motto "Repair and reuse". Stepping on the scaffolding requires the participants to be able to walk safely. Meeting point at the museum reception.
