Sam Amidon is a singer, violinist, banjoist and guitarist originally from Vermont, USA. He has released six solo albums through the Nonesuch and Bedroom Community labels.
Amidon's album material often consists of adventurous reworkings of traditional American ballads, anthems and work songs. The New York Times writes that Amidon "transforms all the songs, changing their colors and loading them with trapdoors". The albums were inherently very collaborative, he invited musicians such as composer Nico Muhly, guitarist Bill Frisell and trumpeter Kenny Wheeler.
Sam Amidon has also recorded or played as a guest artist with musicians such as Bon Iver, Emmylou Harris, Tune-Yards, Pekka Kuusisto and Amidon's wife Beth Orton. He has also performed as a soloist with ensembles such as the Kronos Quartet, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Aurora Orchestra.
