When Gölä released his first dialect record, "Uf u dervo," no one believed in his success. Music critics labeled the newcomer a "zero" and wrote sardonically: "He mixes loser pathos, worker blues and outsider airs into a mainstream pop that leaves no cliché out." Within a very short time, "Uf u dervo" sold 250,000 copies and became one of the most successful Swiss dialect albums. It looks as if Gölä sings from the heart to hundreds of thousands of people.

His success is even a phenomenon for him. Even today, Gölä sees himself as a fictional character: "Most people don't want to know what I really am." Standing on stage and performing in front of a mass of fans is still difficult for him.

Gölä is a man of contrasts. "Either people hate me or love me," he says in an interview. The 55-year-old vacillates between the image of the simple worker next door and the angry citizen who repeatedly rails against left-wing Swiss politics, welfare recipients or intellectuals in the press. Where does this anger come from?

On "Gredig direkt" Gölä talks about his difficult school days and why he keeps going on stage despite feeling uncomfortable in a crowd. He also thinks about what is more important to him: wanderlust or love of home.
