Josef Hader (Germany/Austria 2017)

"The cynical music critic Georg (Josef Hader) is fired by his boss Waller (Jörg Hartmann), and his department is now to be taken over by a younger, far less competent editor. Georg hides his unemployment from his wife Johanna (Pia Hierzegger), who wants nothing more than to have a child with him, and pretends every day that he is going to the editorial office. In reality, he wastes his time with petty campaigns of revenge against his former boss and with visits to the Prater. There he also happens to meet his former school friend Erich (Georg Friedrich - as always a highlight), who seems to be struggling with unemployment on a regular basis. Together they restore the 'Wilde Maus' rollercoaster, and while things seem to be looking up for Erich, Georg falls further and further into the self-imposed spiral of his campaigns of revenge." (Marco Rauch, pressplay.at, 21.9.2017) «Wilde Maus is Josef Hader's directorial debut (...). Hardly anyone can be better imagined in the role of a man in his mid-fifties standing in front of the ruins of his middle-class existence than Hader. Equipped with the melancholic puppy dog look so typical of him, he creates his multi-layered character between tragicomic hero and failed existence. Hader and his film character Georg quickly win sympathy. Not least because Georg's problems are taken from real life and have affected many people before - if not with this intensity, then at least in some way: job loss, fear of social decline, loss of (professional) identity, fear of aging and, last but not least, marital problems.» (Björn Schneider, spielfilm.de)102 min. / color / DCP / OV/d
