Isata Kanneh-Mason | Haydn | Schumann | Mendelssohn | Nielsen | Gubaidulina

Isata Kanneh-Mason believes that classical music is not for young people is a myth. “You just have to listen to this music, the younger the better,” she believes. She was lucky enough to grow up in a family where music was omnipresent and all seven children learned an instrument. At times it was quite loud at home, she admits. There were four pianos in her parents' house alone, and they were often played at the same time. But the Kanneh Mason children were ambitious - with the result that Isata and her younger brother Sheku are now world stars and will both appear at the 2024 summer festival. Born in 1996, Isata, who received the Opus Klassik as the best young artist, was awarded the Leonard Bernstein Award and was at the top of the charts with her CDs, interprets works from Haydn to Gubaidulina. There is some highly virtuoso music, such as Rachmaninoff's piano transcription of Mendelssohn's Scherzo from A Midsummer Night's Dream, and of course her chosen favorite composer Clara Schumann should not be missing. By the way, Isata Kanneh-Mason will reveal what all this is about in the concert.
